Note: these creams may cause scarring, burning, itching, and redness for some individuals.

This is the most common cream people use for molluscum contagiosum and you can get this through a medical prescription. There are mixed reviews on this but it is worth a try.

It is a topical non-steroidal so it should be safe to use. You can apply the cream once a day at bedtime 3 times per week.

Now a lot of you might already know that zinc oxide can help to treat molluscum contagiosum so, the next on the list is the DESITIN Maximum Strength Zinc Oxide Paste. This is like a cream or paste you can use on the areas affected.

This cream contains 40% of zinc oxide making it really effective.

• It creates a rich, thick protective barrier that promotes healing

• It helps reduce redness and irritation of sensitive skin

• It provides moisturization and emollience to the skin

This is a brand in Australia that makes products for people of all ages affected by molluscum contagiosum.

There are 2 products here:

• Mollenol Standard 25ml: this is a lotion or cream that is suitable for adults and children older than 8 years. It should be used only in non-sensitive areas.

• Mollenol Sensitive 25ml: this is a lotion or cream formulated for children 2 to 7 years old. Mollenol Sensitive can be used on sensitive and private parts of the body and face of adults and children of all ages.

These products do not contain mixers, parabens, or stabilizing additives.

The only con is that these products can be expensive.

This is another cream recommended by people with molluscum contagiosum.

• It helps to treat dry skin.

• It helps in skin recovery and repair.

• Can be used as a natural moisturizer, blackhead cleanser, and anti-aging.

• It works great for anal fissures, eczema, molluscum contagiosum, ulcers, and numerous other conditions.

It consists of wheat sprout extract, Purified water, stearic acid, glyceryl caprylate, tocopherol, sodium phytate, potassium sorbate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, cetearyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, glycerine, ceteareth 20, sunflower seed oil, sodium benzoate, xanthan gum, citrus aurantium amara extract.

Conzerol is a topical cream that will cause no scarring- unlike freezing, burning, blistering agents, and other common and harsh procedures.

It is formulated with antiviral phytochemical compounds found in nature.

You can look for these signs within 7 to 12 days of applying Conzerol cream

• Shrinking

• Drying – out

• Redness

• A tiny black dot in the center of the lesion

The only con with this product is that it can be very expensive.

Tretinoin is another prescription medicine you can use to treat molluscum contagiosum. It is available in a gel, liquid, and cream.

It can help to exfoliate and remove the spots in the groin area. There will be irritation and peeling of layers, so do keep that in mind.

Thuja cream or ointment is indicated to treat skin-related problems, corns, brown spots, polyps, tubercles, eruptions, and warts. It can also be used off-label to treat molluscum contagiosum.

The main ingredient is Thuja Occidentalis MT in the ointment base (white petrolatum, paraffin, and lanolin).

We recommend going with Imiquimod cream as it is more commonly used and tested. If you need a zinc oxide-based cream, then DESITIN can be a good option.

If you’re looking for products made for molluscum contagiosum, then Mollenol, Dr. Wheatgrass Skin Recovery Cream, and Conzerol cream are some options.

You can also try out Tretinoin (which can be effective) and Thuja cream (which won’t be effective for the majority of people, so we wouldn’t recommend it).

• Podophyllotoxin cream (used to treat genital warts but can also be used to treat molluscum contagiosum).

• Adapalene or differin cream (another retinoid like tretinoin).

• Zymaderm (another topical treatment for molluscum contagiosum just like the mollenol and conzerol creams).
